The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. There is nothing new in this idea; it has been commented on for two millennia. But it was not until the principle was applied to education I understood that as a teacher, I was contributing to the cumulative disadvantage phenomenon both within my classroom, and in my leadership position within the school.

I will always be grateful to Geoff Barton for the role he played in lighting the spark of interest in this area that has become more and more important as time has gone on. I initially started this blog in order to publish sections of my research, and these can be found through the main menu. However, it has been much more interesting to write about the practical ways in which we attempt to tackle disadvantage at Torquay Academy. There are links to my blog posts and shared resources below.
